Code of conduct

together.eu is the European Parliament's non-partisan community platform, independent from any political party or ideology. The objective of the together.eu platform is to promote democratic engagement in the European Union. Parliament as an institution does not support any specific political party or Members of the European Parliament. 

This code of conduct defines the principles that govern the together.eu platform. Participation in the activities of the platform is voluntary and it should not be used to pursue any commercial or private interests.

The users of together.eu are defined in the platform’s terms of use. All registered users and organisations shall abide by this code of conduct. Specific terms apply to contributing users and organisations.

By registering on together.eu, registered users and organisations commit to not expressing views, sharing content or organising events that:

  • contravene the EU’s values of human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law and respect for human rights, including the rights of persons belonging to minorities, as set out in Article 2 of the Treaty on European Union (TEU);

  • contravene the rights, freedoms and principles set out in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union;

  • discriminate on the grounds of and/or are offensive with respect to appearance, race, ethnic origin, religion or belief, sex, culture or place of birth, disability, age or sexual orientation as set out in Article 10 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU);

  • promote a particular political party or candidate;

  • incite violence against and/or harassment towards other people;

  • are pornographic or contain links to pornographic material or websites;

  • promote or facilitate illegal activities;

  • are illegal, hateful or deliberately false or misleading.

By more actively engaging with together.eu, all contributing users and organisations agree to:

  • contribute constructive and concrete proposals to together.eu that respect the opinions of other citizens and organisations;

  • promote events that are inclusive and accessible

  • encourage diversity in the debates by actively supporting the participation of citizens from all walks of life, irrespective of gender, sexual orientation, age, socioeconomic background, religion or level of education;

  • respect freedom of speech by giving space to competing opinions and proposals – as long as they are neither hateful nor illegal;

  • favour the cross-border participation of citizens and the use of different EU languages whenever possible and relevant;

  • guarantee full transparency when reporting on debates and events;

  • ensure that any information on topics for debate provided to participants (e.g. digital, print or audiovisual material) is accurate, reliable, accessible and has traceable references;

  • ensure compliance with EU data protection rules and the privacy policy of the platform;

  • ensure compliance with the terms of use and in particular with the provisions on intellectual property rights;

  • use the European Parliament logo in accordance with its terms of use, in order to promote its participation on together.eu.

The European Parliament reserves the right to refrain from publishing or to remove content from the platform that is found to be in breach of this code of conduct. It also reserves the right to prevent or withdraw access to the platform for registered users or organisations that are found to be in breach of the principles of this code of conduct or the terms of use.
